Step 1: Attach two (2) Smart Hangers randomly to the back top corners of your frame and Snap-on the marking tabs.

Step 2: Position and level picture on your wall (drywall) and then push top corners straight towards the wall to make marks.

No. If one is higher or lower than the other one, your picture will always hang level. No need to do any measuring where you attach my Smart Hangers. Simply attach two Smart Hangers randomly. I know this doesn’t sound right, but it is correct. Your pictures will always hang perfectly level every time.

No. They can be twisted off parallel up to 15 degrees with the top edge of the frame and your picture will always hang level. Twisted + Uneven = Hangs Perfectly Level every time

This is probably the biggest question everybody asks. Here’s the answer. Attaching them uneven and even twisted a bit off parallel goes against everything we were taught to believe. My Smart Hangers, not only change the way we were taught to think, but work because of one very simple feature. The marking tabs, which mark the exact location where you install a fastener in your wall, is married up with the Smart Hanger. The location where the fastener gets installed in the wall always matches up with the Smart Hanger or the spike on the Marking Tab. It is a totally fail-proof system and ..... “It’s Goof Proof”. You literally can’t mess it up.

Yes. They include everything you will need to hang your picture frames. The only tools you will need are a Phillip screwdriver (#1 & #2 bit) to attach the Smart Hangers to your WOOD frames and a hammer to pound the nails in the wall. You’ll need a #2 flat screwdriver to attach the Smart Hangers to METAL frames. Each kit comes with a level vial, but if you want to use a larger sized level, it’s certainly okay. Your choice.

Yes. I produce them out of a resin called polycarbonate (PC). It’s very hard and durable. By making them out of this high-quality grade of resin, it assures multiple use of them over and over. My focus was to use a resin, which will make the spike (the point that makes the indentation in the wall) very hard so it makes a nice perfect indentation in the wall. If I were to have used another lower quality, less expensive grade of resin, there would have been a concern about the spike mushrooming or flattening out when it is being pushed against the wall vs. poking into the wall (drywall). By using a high-quality resin, they work perfectly.

My new (steel) Smart Hangers are extremely strong and will hold weights up to 150 lbs. (using 2 hangers). We have tested them using weights up to 300 lbs. with no failures. However, I like to build in a safety factor, so we promote them as hanging weight up to 150 lbs. Other factors need to be taken into account when hanging very heavy items, like the screws used to fasten the Smart Hangers to the item, and the type of fasteners you are installing in the wall. Installing long drywall screws into wood studs, will generally meet the maximum weight limits.

Most of us want to use hanging hardware that will hold a large amount of weight. But if you don’t use fasteners (you put in the wall or wood studs), which will equally support the weight capabilities of the Smart Hangers, you break the relationship between the two and compromise the amount of weight you want to hang.  You have a number of options for fasteners to use to make sure they and the Smart Hangers meet the weight limits of the picture frames or wall décor you want to hang. Here are the weight limits you can achieve using the fasteners included in each kit.

Horizontal Smart Hangers:

• 1.625” long .120 diameter nails into wood studs = up to 125 lbs. hanging weight.
• 1.250” long .080 diameter skinny nails into wood studs = up to 50 lbs. hanging weight.
• 1.625” long .120 diameter nails in drywall = up to 12 lbs. hanging weight.
• 1.250” long .080 diameter skinny nails in drywall = up to 12 lbs. hanging weight.
• picGENIE™ Smart Anchors = up to 30 lbs. (using 2).

There are many other types of wall anchors sold for use in drywall and they work well. Each come with different weight capacities. My picGENIE™ Smart Anchors will hold up to 30 lbs. when install in drywall (using 2/picture). They are sold separately online. 2” long drywall screws (not included) installed straight into wood studs also work great and will allow you to hang up to 150 lbs.

Good question. My Smart Hangers take up a very small amount of space between the frame and wall (apx. 3/16”). When your pictures are hung using my Smart Hangers, they will have a very neat, professional look. They will look like they are flush against the wall. It is recommended to have a small amount of air space between the frame and wall. This small amount of space allows for air movement to take place and prevent moisture from building up and causing damage to your picture. This is a particular concern in colder climates. My Smart Hangers give you the best of all worlds.

In most cases, the answer is no. If you are hanging picture frames that are very narrow (3/8” width), the Smart Hangers will need to be installed close to the outside edge of the frame if you intend to lock the corner joints together. In this case, they will be slightly visible. However, you can attach them to the top rung in away from the edge of the frame and they will not be visible. I plate my Smart Hangers using a black nickel plating to make them less visible. For all other wider frames, you will not be attaching the Smart Hangers that close to the outside edge of the frame, so they won’t be visible.

I include both skinny and slightly larger diameter nails in each of my Smart Hanger kits. My skinny nails are only eighty thousandths (.080) of an inch in diameter. So, they are very skinny and make a very small hole. My larger diameter nails are one hundred twenty thousandths (.120) of an inch in diameter and longer, but the hole is still very small. In order to meet the 125 lbs. hanging weight limit, the larger nails need to be used in conjunction with the large screws included in each kit. Nobody wants to make un-necessary holes in their walls, but who wants to leave their walls empty giving you an unfriendly living environment. We all want our house to have a comfortable homey feeling with family portraits, wall décor, you name it. I do and I’m sure you do too. The advantage to using my Picture Hanging System is it allows you to make the least number of holes and give you the world’s best way to hang pictures and other items on your walls SECURELY. Please keep in mind, nearly every hardware store sells Spackling, which is used to fill small wall holes, in the event you want to repaint or redecorate your home. Don’t let the thought of a small hole prevent you from making your home environment a place where you are proud and happy to be in. Making sure your wall décor is securely fastened to your walls, gives you the peace of mind we all want to have.

Going back many years, the common way to hang pictures was to install a wire on the back of them and then hook the wire on a single nail or fastener you put in the wall. Certainly, a hit and miss strategy, but that was how most pictures were hung for decades if not centuries. In recent years, the consumer began demanding a better way or a better system. We are all tired of hanging pictures using a single fastener in the wall and then watching your pictures slowly start hanging crooked over time due to wall vibration. I’ve created a two-point hanging system with the benefit of having pinpoint accuracy and no crooked pictures. My system creates the best way to hang your pictures and it is fun to do. Good question. This depends on how your picture frames were made along with how much they weigh. Miter joint separation is a big concern. Some miter joints are made using a biscuit and are glued together, whereas, others are glued and stapled to hold them together, but not all are glued. Over time, the miter joint can dry out causing it so come apart under continual heavy weight tension pulling (gravity) on the miter joints. This is why I designed my new (steel) Smart Hangers with the CornerLock feature. My Smart Hangers allow you to attach them by installing one screw in the top rung of the frame and one in the side rung. This locks the miter joint together giving you the security and peace-of-mind knowing you don’t need to worry about the corner of your frames pulling apart, only to hear your picture frame crashing to the floor. Please note: Each frame has four corner joints, so if you are hanging heavy picture frames or large framed mirrors, consider installing Smart Hangers on all four corners so all four corners are locked together. If you use four Smart Hangers and four fasteners, it will also increase the amount of weight you can hang as well. Another added feature along with securing the corners together, is the two bottom Smart Hangers will act as spacers so your picture hangs against the wall equally spaced from top to bottom. Beautiful!

You can, but my entire focus was to create a picture hanging system that would allow everybody the freedom of hanging their own pictures and other wall décor. In the event you have very large and/or heavy items to hang, I would recommend you get some helping hands. Large items can be hard to handle by yourself. For the vast majority of picture frames, you can easily do it all by yourself.

There’s an easy wall to do this. Nearly all hardware stores sell “Stud Finders”. They are inexpensive and very handy to have on hand. They will show you were both sides of the stud are located. If you put a strip of masking tape across the area on your wall that covers the stud location, as you slide the stud finder across the wall horizontally and the stud finder will beep when you come to a stud. Simply make marks on the masking tape for the stud location. Position the Smart Hangers 16” apart on center (or 32”, 48”, etc., depending how large your frame is). Attached the Smart Hangers so they will be aligned with the center of the studs. Then, make the marks on the wall. Install the fasteners into the marks, which should be the center of the studs. By installing the correct fasteners into the wood studs, they will hold weights up to 150 lbs. using just two Smart Hangers. You can also put a strip of masking tape across the top/front edge of the item you are hang. Position your item where you want to hang it on the wall and make marks depicting the center of the studs. Using these marks, you can attach the Smart Hangers on the back of the picture frame and they will line up with the studs in the wall. Beautiful!
